Raising the Red Lantern will be a benefit party to be held at Jajo Gallery in Newark on the 18th of July. All proceeds from this event will help a group of approximately fifteen artists slated to perform in The 10th Open Art International Performance Festival happening in Beijing the first week in September. This festival enjoys the distinction of being the largest and longest festival of its kind anywhere. Jajo Gallery is pleased and honored to cooperate with Grace Exhibition Space of Brooklyn to be a part of this festival.

Using simple tools to construct their compositions, artists Aakash
Nihalani, Ibrahim Ahmed III, and Poster Boy have created site-specific
works to be unveiled at Jajo Gallery.

Working off the walls, Aakash Nihalani and Poster Boy have collaborated inefforts of wholly-evolving the space. By working in a controlled environment they have altered their guerilla-art style. This shift inevitably modifies their mediums, as well as their interaction with the public.

Ibrahim Ahmed III has fused conventional means of fine arts with industrial found objects. Utilizing the ceiling, he has chosen to create a large-scale installation striking an intimate dialogue between his work and the space.

Mastering their mediums, artists Aakash Nihalani, Ibrahim Ahmed III, and Poster Boy have presented an exhibition of immense proportion and great magnitude.

Some people were skeptical about an exhibition curated and created solely by High-schoolers. I will tell you though our batch of "Stupid Kids" really pulled it off! Parents, Professors and our normal Jajo crowd was more than amazed of the talent brought to the table for this exhibition!

In celebration of Newark's emergence as an art center, Clifford M. Stein, building owner and president of Savitar Realty Advisors, has kindly donated the third floor of 33 Washington to 100 artists who have come together in a showcase of great magnitude. In efforts to give back to the city, these artists have generously agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to The Valerie Fund branch located in Newark. The Valerie Fund is a not-for-profit organization established in 1976 to provide support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders. Today, there are seven Valerie Fund Children's Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders located in major hospitals in the tri-state area, providing caring and comprehensive health care to more than 5,000 children and their families each year.

ONE CITY IS A TESTIMONY OF HOPE.

So I heard that there will be Nude Bartenders serving drinks on the House all night. And get this, Mavric will be Djing in his boxers till 10AM the following morning.

Well I heard that there will be livestock for sale and Tiesto will be Djing live at the gallery for the rest of his natural life. And the Jajo is going to be open 24Hrs. from now on!

You are both crazy, I heard that there is going to be a celebrity guest Rock Band, who at 12AM is going to request everyone lose their clothes for the remainder of the show.

MIDEO CRUZ is a performance, media and visual artist. His work has been exhibited widely since 1996 in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Cruz is the receipient of an Ateneo de Manila Award in 2006 and the Thirteen Artists Awards, Cultural Center of the Philippines

ROB ANDREWS
ROB ANDREWS has been creating performances in New York City since 2001. He is a 9th grade public school teacher in Brooklyn. Rob was a personal assistant to artist William Pope.L, has a M.S. in Education from Pace University, and a B.A. in English(concentration in Creative Writing) from Bates College, Maine. In 2001, he was awarded the Senseney Memorial Award, given to a student who has shown outstanding creative ability in writing. He recently participated in the 40*PHI Live Art in the Parks series and has worked extensively at Exit Art, in New York.

JEHO BITANCOR
JEHO BITANCOR ia a cultural Centre of The Philippines Thirteen Artist Awardee of 2006, who has exhibited extensively in the Philippines, Singapore, USA, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong. Jeho has won several awards and distinctions, and is collected by the Singapore Art Museum, Ateneo Art Gallery, National Commission for Cultural and the Arts, Aurora Provincial Government, Museuo de Baler, as well as several private collections.

THE HEAVEN & HELL is a collaborative effort by several urban artists to emphasize the powers of balance and struggle. Using very universal themes, these artists have blatantly referenced the power of contrast in, both, their work as individual artists and as a collective team. Quoting opposites such as heaven and hell, the individual and a group, street art and more traditional fine arts are just some of the references these artists have made.
